This exhibition is symbolic of my personal journey through motherhood,” says Marin. “I use a variety of often unexpected materials to create striking material juxtapositions and share my story through an artistic lens. In The Name of The Mother is the culmination of many different inspirations that I’ve gathered throughout the years – from childhood to today. My intention for this series is to inspire conversation and thoughtful analysis of mothers who feel stuck in the “mother role” – whether due to societal pressure or instincts – and their struggle to find balance.

Visionary Projects partnered with Related Company’s high line nine galleries, hosting a 6 week exhibition bringing together 100 artists from across the globe to share their intimate stories and inner worlds. The salon style experience was intentionally curated to explore the essence of individuality and dynamic representation of the human experience. Celebrating our nuances and variations of expression, the show is meant to inspire an alternative wave of new cultural connections while creating a more equitable and accessible space.

WHILE THE FEMALE NUDE HAS LONG PLAYED A CONSPICUOUS ROLE IN WESTERN ART, THE ACCOMPANYING SEXUALIZED OBJECTIFICATION (IF NOT EXPLOITATION) OF WOMEN HAS RENDERED IN HIGH RELIEF OUR CURRENT CULTURE’S QUESTIONING OF GENDER ROLES AND SPECIFICALLY THE ASSUMED DOMINANCE OF THE MALE (PREDATORY) GAZE.
THROUGH THE EXHIBITION OF THE MALE NUDE, TURNING THE GAZE AIMED TO TURN THAT GAZE AROUND AND LEVEL THE VISUAL FIELD THROUGH A FULL-FRONTAL CELEBRATION OF MEN’S BODIES. IT FEATURED A SALON OF EROTIC AND NON-EROTIC WORKS IN A RANGE OF MEDIA AND STYLES THAT EXPLORE THE COMPOSITIONS, POSTURES, AND ROLE-PLAYING WITHIN THIS FLOURISHING YET STILL UNDEREXPOSED GENRE.

THE PATRIOT RECEIVED INCREDIBLE RECOGNITION DURING THE SUMMER OF 2022. DURING THE OPENING, OVER 700 PIECES OF ART WERE DISPLAYED IN THE DARK, ONLY VISIBLE BY FLASHLIGHT. THE BUZZ RESULTING FROM THE EXHIBITION LANDED IT IN TOP PUBLICATIONS INCLUDING THE NEW YORK TIMES, TIME OUT, ART NEWS, AND MORE.

MARIN’S VERY FIRST EXHIBITION WAS IN MARRAKECH IN 2014. THE MONTH-LONG EXHIBITION SHOWCASED 15 PIECES THAT BROUGHT TO LIGHT THE ARTIST’S UNIQUE UNIVERSE. THROUGH BOLD PATTERNS AND SHAPES, ONE COULD FIND A BESPOKE FEEL IN THE HANDMADE CONSTRUCTION OF EACH PIECE. MARIN WORKED DIRECTLY WITH WOODWORKERS, STERLING SILVER MASTERS, AND MULTIGENERATIONAL FAMILY-RUN ARTISANS TO CREATE THE SINGULAR OBJECTS AND ENSURE THEIR QUALITY.
